Chill Wind 03/19/2008

I feel like I've been reading non-stop the past few weeks!

Tonight I read Chill Wind by Janet McDonald.  Other than being a really quick read it wasn't too bad.  This is the story of Aisha Ingram, a 19 year-old single mother of two living in the housing projects of Brooklyn.  The story is mostly about Aisha's life of chilling.  She chilled in school, she chilled with her friends, and she had been chilling for 4 +years on Welfare benefits.  Aisha gets a chilly dose of reality when she needs to find employment to support her young family.  Does she get a break or is she forced to join a subway youth patrol?

Find it in the LHS media center under FIC MCD.

I just finished reading Rock Star Superstar by Blake Nelson yesterday.  I admit, it was a bit fluffy but overall not a bad read.  In fact, I found myself reluctant to put it down.

The story line is about a high school junior Pete.  Pete's a bass player but so far his only solid gig has been jazz band and an 8th grade dance.  That all changes when he joins a band named the Tiny Masters of Today.  They're original and they definitely have energy but are they good enough to go pro and get a record deal?  There's also much talk about Pete's love life making this a definite high school read.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down.  Nothing earth shattering but I did like how the author referenced a few bands that I listen to like Hot Hot Heat and others.

Check it out in the high school media center under FIC NEL.

Happy reading!
